New Chinese Ambassador Wu Wei Arrives in Pohnpei

Wu Wei, the new Chinese Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia arrived in Pohnpei to assume office on June 17, and delivered written remarks upon arrival at the airport. Kalvin Ehmes, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asian Affairs of the FSM Foreign Affairs Department, representing the FSM government, and McGarry Miguel, representing the Micronesia-China Friendship Association, welcomed Ambassador Wu at the airport.

Ambassador Wu said he is greatly honored to be appointed as the 13th Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Federated States of Micronesia. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the FSM 34 years ago, the bilateral relations have been advanced constantly on the basis of upholding the one-China principle. The two countries have been standing together through thick and thin and helping each other in jointly overcoming risks and challenges such as Covid-19 pandemic. The friendship between China and the FSM has emerged much stronger as time goes by. China will work closely with the FSM side to steadily enhance political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, strengthen people-to-people exchanges, carry forward traditional friendship and jointly write a new chapter to the development of China-FSM Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. As the Chinese Ambassador, he will make unremitting efforts to this end.

On behalf of the FSM government, Ehmes welcomed Ambassador Wu’s assumption of office, and expressed the belief that with the joint efforts of both sides, China and the FSM will achieve new and greater development in bilateral friendly relations and practical cooperation in various fields, and the FSM side will provide support and assistance for Ambassador Wu to fulfill his mission.
