Ambassador Huang Zheng Met with President Peter M. Christian of the FSM

On Aug 9, H.E. Huang Zheng, Chinese Ambassador to the FSM, met with Mr. Peter M. Christian, President of the FSM. Mr. Xu Fan, member of the leadership of the Chinese Embassy, and the working group of the Secondary Road and Bridge Reconstruction Project in Pohnpei, attended the meeting.

   
Ambassador Huang and President Christian exchanged views on the Secondary Road and Bridge Reconstruction Project. President Christian thanked the Chinese side for the long-standing support for the FSM, and said that the road and bridge project is a concrete embodiment of the "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. The FSM is willing to speed up the joint pursuit of the " Belt and Road" cooperation and to join the AIIB at an early date. The FSM will further strengthen cooperation with China in infrastructure areas such as roads and bridges, and promote the in-depth development of bilateral relations.

Ambassador Huang said that the construction of infrastructure such as roads and bridges is an important part of interconnection. It is an important area of international cooperation in the joint pursuit of the " Belt and Road" initiative. It is a concrete embodiment of President Xi Jinping's important idea of building a community with a shared future for the humanity. For a long time, China has persisted in the basic principles of equality and mutual respect, attention to actual effect and mutual benefit, has worked constantly to improve the survival and development problems of the FSM people and has brought real welfare to the locals. Those projects are important consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries and key projects with which the two sides are deeply concerned. The two sides should promptly implement the consensus of the leaders in both China and the FSM, actively promote progress in the projects. China is willing to work with the FSM side to expand exchanges and cooperation in all fields, promoting the bilateral relationship to a new high and better benefiting the people of the two countries.
